Geothermal Energy

Geothermal Energy is heat that is generated and stored inside the Earth itself. The Earths internal heat comes from the formation of our planet along with the Nuclear Decay of different atoms over time. We harness this energy with the geothermal gradient from the core to the surface of the planet.

Geothermal Energy From a Power Plant harnessing Geothermal Heat and Nuclear Decay of Atoms

What is Geothermal Energy?

The earth generates an enormous amount of energy in its core. We usually see this from volcanos and hot springs. If you find a good source of heat that is consistent, it is possible to use that energy to produce electricity. This energy is harnessed much the same way any power plant would handle energy generation. The heat from the Earth is harnessed and used to produce steam (water) and that steam is fed through a steam turbine to produce electricity. It can be used on these large scales or as small as a hot spring where you can take a nice hot bath and relax.

In Space, Use of Alternative Energy Sources Is Very Useful

Alternative Energy

Is Alternative Energy is the same as Renewable Energy? This may change depending on who you talk to? In our opinion, we decided to say that alternative energy is another type of energy that is not fossil fuel and burns clean, but may not be a renewable source. This means that we may not have unlimited fuel for the future.

Renewable Energy

So what is renewable energy anyway? Renewable Energy is an energy source that can never run out or nearly never run out. Unlike some of the fossil fuels that we will eventually mine out of the Earth, Renewable energy sources, such as Solar Energy or Wind Energy, can always be harnessed as long as we still have sunlight and wind.

Fossil Fuels

Fossil Fuels come in many forms including some of the popular fuel sources such as coal, natural gas, and petroleum (crude oil). Most of the power from the United States and most of the world is based on Fossil Fuels. It is a cheap fuel compared to renewable and alternative energy sources, but with new technologies, we are moving towards cleaner and healthier forms of energy and power.
