Nuclear Energy

Nuclear Power has been around for decades. It produces a large amount of energy for a small amount of fuel. Like most energy sources, it also comes with its pros and cons. If the issues can be addressed, this fuel can last for hundreds of years.

Nuclear Fission, Nuclear Fusion, Nuclear Decay, and Nuclear Power and Energy

What is Nuclear Energy?

Nuclear Energy comes from the atomic scale where atoms sometimes release energy depending on the conditions. Nuclear Fission is the most commonly one seen and known because of the local Nuclear Power Plants that run on this type of nuclear reaction. Nuclear Fission is when one atom splits apart into two atoms and release energy. This is usually bigger elements on the periodic table, such as Uranium. Nuclear Fusion is a nuclear reaction seen mostly in stars as this is their major way of producing energy. Two small atoms, like Hydrogen, fused together to make a larger atom, releasing energy as well. In Nuclear Decay, atoms naturally break down over time, called their half-life. As they decay, they give off energy. We will go into more detail below.

In Space, Use of Alternative Energy Sources Is Very Useful

Alternative Energy

Is Alternative Energy is the same as Renewable Energy? This may change depending on who you talk to? In our opinion, we decided to say that alternative energy is another type of energy that is not fossil fuel and burns clean, but may not be a renewable source. This means that we may not have unlimited fuel for the future.

Renewable Energy

So what is renewable energy anyway? Renewable Energy is an energy source that can never run out or nearly never run out. Unlike some of the fossil fuels that we will eventually mine out of the Earth, Renewable energy sources, such as Solar Energy or Wind Energy, can always be harnessed as long as we still have sunlight and wind.

Fossil Fuels

Fossil Fuels come in many forms including some of the popular fuel sources such as coal, natural gas, and petroleum (crude oil). Most of the power from the United States and most of the world is based on Fossil Fuels. It is a cheap fuel compared to renewable and alternative energy sources, but with new technologies, we are moving towards cleaner and healthier forms of energy and power.
